We continue to deliver your goods without any issues.

Our US and Nairobi operations remain fully operational. The health and safety of our clients and staff members is our number one priority. We are taking every precaution possible to ensure that we keep everyone safe. Below are 10 questions we are getting often from our clients and partners about the effect of COVID-19 on our operations.

QUESTION 1: Are you still shipping?
Yes we are. The travel bans and border closures imposed by governments around the world are geared at stopping the movement of people. Not goods. Goods are being delivered at JKIA on a daily basis by airlines such as KLM, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Emirates. Among their fleets, these airlines have cargo only planes (also known as Freighters) which are currently fully operational. All our goods are now being delivered in Kenya by freighters. It is highly unlikely that governments can impose bans on cargo transportation. Such a ban would grind the global economy to a halt thus leading to severe social destabilization.

QUESTION 2: Can I place an order with you?
Yes you can. We are still taking and fulfilling Buy and Ship orders and our warehouse is still receiving packages for clients using our Shipping Only service. As a matter of fact, we have clients who are placing orders more frequently because most online stores have massive sales going on right now. We often share details of online stores with prices up to 80% off on our Instagram stories.

QUESTION 3: Are US online stores such as Amazon still shipping orders?
Yes they are. Online shopping is experiencing an unprecedented surge at the moment. As an example, Amazon is hiring 100,000 new employees in the US to keep up with demand and ship orders on time. Big box retailers such as Walmart and Target are also hiring new employees. Virtually every department store that sells clothing and accessories such as H&M, Macy's, Nordstrom, Zara are all fulfilling orders. All of them are also offering massive discounts right now.

QUESTION 4: Is Savo Store affected by the lockdowns in the US?
Our US office and warehouse operations are not affected by any lockdowns. In the US, our warehouse operations are considered an essential business activity. We are therefore allowed to remain open. The US Department of Homeland Security, lists companies involved in 'Transportation and Logistics' as crucial infrastructure. Therefore our US office and warehouse remains open for deliveries by courier companies such as Fedex, USPS, DHL, UPS, Amazon, Ontrac etc.

QUESTION 5: Is your US warehouse open?
Yes. Our US warehouse is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Packages are being received and processed as usual. However, in observance of social distancing, we are not accepting walk-in clients at the US warehouse. All packages must be delivered by a major courier company such as Fedex, USPS, DHL, UPS, Amazon, Ontrac etc.

QUESTION 6: Is your Nairobi office open?
Yes it is. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM and from 9 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays. However, instead of coming to our office to pick up a package, we encourage you to use our subsidized next day local doorstep delivery with Fargo Courier. This helps us all in jointly observing social distancing, thus ensuring your safety and that of our staff members.

QUESTION 7: Will I receive my package if there is a lockdown in Kenya?
Yes you will. As with almost every other nation in the world, Kenya considers distribution, freight transportation and logistics to be essential business activities. As mentioned above, curtailing these activities would have terrible economic and social consequences. Companies that we work with such as our local delivery partner Fargo Courier, will continue to deliver goods to our clients. Therefore you can be assured that you will receive any orders you ship with us.

QUESTION 8: Will there be any shipping delays due to COVID-19?
It is possible that delays may occur. But they will not be long. Cargo is still moving quite efficiently in to Kenya. Any delay will likely occur because there is very high demand for space on Cargo only planes. On the flipside, the airlines have a strong incentive to increase capacity to meet demand. Many airlines around the world such Lufthansa which flies to Kenya are actually stuffing seats with cargo or removing seats in order to meet the demand for cargo shipments. This increased capacity is likely to prevent any significant capacity-related delays.

QUESTION 9: Will you be adjusting your delivery timeline?
Our delivery timeline is 7 to 15 Business days after your package has departed our US warehouse. If we determine that it is necessary to adjust our delivery timeline, we will certainly communicate this with you in a timely manner. As of now, we see no reason to make any changes to our delivery timelines.

QUESTION 10: What measures are you taking to ensure that packages are not contaminated and also to protect your staff members from getting infected with the virus?
We are doing a lot in this area. First of all, every Savo Store employee in Kenya and in the US has full health insurance coverage, paid for by the company. We also have paid sick leave for all employees. This ensures that none of them feel compelled to work if they feel unwell. This is an issue that has come up in the US media recently as a factor that can help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. Savo Store employees who can work from home are working from home. Secondly, as detailed in a previous email, we are disinfecting all packages that arrive at our Nairobi office. We are also including a disinfectant wipe in every client's package. All areas of our offices and warehouses are being disinfected on a daily basis. You can therefore be assured that we are doing everything we can to keep our clients and staff members safe.
